But nor do they have the time to keep up with changes in legislation or new developments that can help their business. An environmental management system (EMS) is a means of measuring and controlling the overall impact your company has on the environment. An EnMS – an energy management system – is very similar, but focuses on energy. The two are designed to integrate very easily into a single system.	Setting up an EMS encourages you to take a hard look at all areas where your business has an environmental impact. Working together, we can identify: • Where you can reduce waste • How you can save energy and materials • Systems to reduce the risk of accidentally breaching environmental legislation And also improve your image with customers, insurers, regulators and the public - it’s good PR. Generally, better environmental performance leads to better business performance – a lean and green company for a sustainable future. To set up an EnMS you need to focus on all the ways in which you use energy, and changing patterns. This information helps you to take the same type of systematic approach to: • Find areas of potential savings and quantify the benefits • Improve your energy performance • Demonstrate to others that you are taking energy management (and therefore carbon issues) seriously You can also seek certification to BS EN 16001, as with ISO 14001. I can work with you through all the stages to set up and run an effective system, making sure that it fits in with your production and customer needs.
